Hmm, I wonder how much of this is to do with the nature of TV? It has been argued famously that the medium is the message - even if we don't go quite that far, TV is only effective at conveying certain sorts of information, and as Neil Postman argues, it turns everything into entertainment - in fact, it's at its worst when it tries to do more serious topics. Dawkins is clearly strongly biased against religion, which he sees as a malign force. TV likes people like him...it doesn't like intellectual discourse of serious matters.
